j FRAIDY CAT TRIUMPHS Registers Another H. P. Headley Success in a Detroit Feature Race. Proves Easy Winner of Rockwood Purse Over Whisking and Miney Myerson in Fast Time. DETROIT, Mich., June 16 Fraidy Cat. another representative from Hal Price Head-leys Kentucky breeding establishment, carried off major honors in a feature offering at Detroit when the son of Apprehension was an easy winner of the Rockwood Puise a high-priced claiming affair that was the fifth event and main attraction this afternoon. J. H. Tates Whisking was second and Miney Myerson, from the locally-owned Motor City Stable, third. "Smoky" Saunders drove the Headley colorbearer into a three lengths lead during the opening quarter of the six furlongs sprint and, speeding over the distance in the fast time of 1:11, he reached the end three and one-half lengths before Whisking, which was a neck in the van of the tiring Miney Myerson. lndiantown was fourth, with Mamas Choice and Sir Ten always far back, Under light urging while establishing his good advantage, Fraidy Cat was only put to mild urging when Miney Myerson threatened entering the stretch, but after repulsing that threat he was placed under light restraint Used up from his exacting task, Miney Myerson tired in the last stages and Whisk- IContinued on third page. The winner, which failed in his two previous starts here, was the favorite. Summer weather and another fast track prevailed for the program, and although in most instances favorites were unsuccessful, those held next in esteem had a banner day. Maiden two-year-olds met at five furlongs for the fourth event and supporting attraction, and despite her consistent performances, Miss Bonnie, a. home-bred daughter of Harry Baker and Bonnie M., which races for Dan Lehan, provided a mild surprise when she led Dunnamany, the favorite, Sun Frolic and five others to the end. Under 112 pounds, she ran the distance in :59. Under the guidance of Glen Smith and never far back of Sun Frolic, which sprinted into a long lead during the opening furlong, and Encircle, which followed in closest pursuit, the winner drove around the leading pair entering the stretch to take command in the last stages and. lead Dunnamany by a half length .at. the. .end. The latter, which saved ground throughout, had the same advantage over Sun Frolic, which tired rapidly during the last furlong. In a nip and tuck duel with The Point, Roxana S. scored -a nose triumph in the three-quarters sprint that opened the program. The Point, which swerved in the stretch, was second, and the lightly supported Sheratan third. The Point was rushed to the front soon after the start, but Roxana S. moved up on the outside of him leaving the back stretch, and they raced as a team to the end. Sheratan came from far back to beat Rosy Doon by a half length for minor honors. Miss Morocco, which enjoyed favoritism, was always far back and pulled up lame, and Step in Time bled after returning to the stand. Jimmy King, one of the leading riders last year, who has been very successful since entering the trainers ranks, saddled another winner when High Bottom led Shad-owdawn, a fielder; Just Imperial, and nine other lowly platers to the finish of the six furlongs second race. Recovering quickly after being forced back at the far bend, the winner, which was ridden by L. Turner, took command at the stretch turn, and after establishing a clear advantage, the finish found him slightly more than a length before Shadowdawn and well in hand. The latter came from far back to beat Just Imperial by a nose for second. Moane Keala, which shared favoritism with the winner, quit badly after leading the field for a half mile and pulled up. sore. One of the biggest disappointments of the meeting came with the third race for older maidens when Appealing, a heavily supported choice, was unprepared at the start. Winning honors went to Top Tax, which reached the end of the six furlongs six lengths before Indian Lace with Photography third. Twelve accepted under special weights, with Stonecrop and Indian Lace showing the way for a half mile. At that stage Earl Porter drove the winner to the front, and he drew away rapidly to be well in hand at the end. After his belated beginning, Appealing made up much ground to finish in fifth place, a head back of Stonecrop. : : - -
